The GEN-COUPLE screening is your safest way to guarantee that every step you take is towards a better chance at life for you & your family.
The GEN-COUPLE is a simple blood or saliva DNA test that determines if you are a carrier of one or more autosomal recessive or X-linked genetic conditions. A carrier of a genetic condition has a change (or “mutation”) in one gene copy of a pair of genes. Ideally, carrier screening is performed before pregnancy. This gives at-risk couples the broadest number of reproductive options.
Who should do GEN-COUPLE screening?
- Anyone who wants to avoid passing down genetic conditions to their children.
- If a woman and her partner are both carriers of the same condition, they have a 25% (1 in 4) chance with each pregnancy of having a child affected with the condition.
- If a woman is a carrier of an X-linked condition, she has a 50% (1 in 2) chance with each pregnancy of passing her gene mutation on to a child. If the child is a boy, he has a 50% chance of being affected by the condition.
